Get your camera ready for this incredible installation on Sparks Street. Prismatica is a group of spectrums that provide a kaleidoscope of vibrant colours. Enjoy over 25 pivoting prisms over 6 feet tall that light up from the bases, projecting an array of colours to the chime of bells. It’s worth visiting the installation both night and day because you’ll get two completely different experiences. Enjoy this installation with the historic backdrop of Sparks Street until October 25th. Enjoy this installation and support local businesses at the same time. Here are some things to add to your trip followed by some photo inspiration.
COVID19 Precautions:
Admire the prisms from afar or spin them to see the colours move. I tapped the bottom with my foot but if you move them with your hand there are three hand-washing stations with soap and water on Sparks Street. Since the installation is outside it’s easy to social distance.

Grab A Coffee and Stroll the Street
Enjoy a warm drink as you stroll the street. Enjoy a caramel apple cider from Bridgehead, hot chocolate from Le Moulin de Provence KD, or some locally roasted coffee from Little Victories.
Visit the Installation At Lunch
Day time is a great opportunity to visit the Prisms because as the sun hits them you’ll see their colour drawn across the street. Grab a bowl from Freshii, a sandwich from La Vie Bella, or crepes from Creperie Rim and sit on a bench and admire the installation.
Enjoy the Shops
Sparks Street has a great mix of shops from souvenirs, clothing and jewellery. Pop into the shops for what you need or support the shops online. Get a full list of Sparks Street shops here.
You’ll find two of Ottawa’s best jewellers, True Bijoux and Howard Fine Jewellers on Sparks Street. Whether you want to look at rings or have found the one, check out Prismatica while you’re there. I have a list of the best places to propose in the capital but Prismatica could be another one 😉 It’s unique and you have the historic backdrop of Sparks Street for your photos.
Enjoy a Heated Patio
One of my favourite restaurants on Sparks Street is Rabbit Hole. Enjoy their heated patio this fall. They have great cocktails and pizzas. Visit Prismatica and then head for a bite.
Visit Prismatica At Night and Get Takeout
Whether it’s breakfast or dinner, head to Sparks Street for takeout. Enjoy your takeout on one of the benches and watch the light from the prisms dance across the street.
Prefer having your meal at home? Take some time to explore the prisms and then save on delivery fees by picking up your meal on Sparks Street. Skipping delivery apps also helps businesses more because the delivery service doesn’t eat into their profits.
Here are some takeout ideas:
- Riviera: one of Ottawa’s best restaurants, you can’t go wrong with any item
- BierMarkt: enjoy the tastes of Germany at home with items like their pretzel and beer cheese dip.
- Brixton’s British Pub: enjoy classic fish and chips and more pub favourites

Bicycle Rentals + E-scooters
Biking around the capital has quickly become one of my favourite social distance activities. Head to Escape Bicycle Tours and Rentals and rent one of their bikes or e-scooters. They disinfect everything in between uses and their central location means you’re so close to many Ottawa attractions, including Prismatica.
Photo Ideas For Prismatica on Sparks Street
Light Reflection
Using the prisms you can get some really cool light reflection photos. Since the colours change depending on where the light is reflected, there are endless possibilities.
Selfie
You’ll be able to see your own reflection in the prisms so it’s a great opportunity to take a next-level selfie.
Boomerang
Since the prisms move, you can get a really cool boomerang of the prisms or a fun pose like waving at the prism.
Light Across The Street
Sparks Street has some beautiful buildings that make the perfect backdrop for your photos. Get a streetscape photo with the prisms and buildings during the day and you’ll be able to see light drawn across the ground.
There are endless possibilities. I would love to see what you create. Make sure to tag @littlemissottawa and @sparks_street to share your own experience enjoying Prismatica on Sparks Street.
